HAGAY DREAMING (Dowmung Edition)
Amidst mountain rain, lost in the desolate wilderness;
Within tree hollows, traversing the realms of human and spirits;
Between virtual and reality, foreseeing the rituals of Hagay;
With devout hearts, sharing joy and divine spirits;
Guiding the blessings, eternally circulating among us.

The performance at the Dowmung Tribe Ceremony Space initiated the development of HAGAY DREAMING theatrical production. This performance invited collaborators Ibau (Paiwan writer), Tzuan Wu (experimental video), Aka Chang (laser design), Shan Shan Chen (messenger), Sayun Chang (music production) and Shih Min Szu (choreographer and dancer) to participate in the creation. Paiwan writer Ibau writing style is refreshing and lyrical. She avoids heaviness and sentimentality when confronting tradition, maintaining sensibility and heritage. Experimental film artist Tzuan Wu uses digital imagery and analog film techniques to create fantastical forest walks and dreamlike fragments. Laser artist Aka Chang uses light totems symbolizing the eyes of ancestral spirits to convey the tribal culture; Amis singer Shan Shan Chen’s vocal calls for the arrival of the spiritual realm; music producer Sayun Chang enriches the traditional songs of the Taroko tribe by blending modern percussion, world music and free improvisation; Saisiyat artist Shih Min Szu interprets the masculine and powerful side of Hagay with a solo dance. He also leads the five young members of Elug Art Corner in choreographing their body movements with dramatic tension.
